Where Rubber Meets the Road

I had to get new tires last week. Ugh! They are not cheap. Usually, you’d think this would be a man’s job, but I’m good. My dad taught me to change my oil, a tire, build a fence, shoot a deer and mow the yard. I could do the research and figure out what tires I needed and go get them myself (with the approval of my husband of course).

So I set out by going to “the Google!” There is a bunch to know about tires. I learned all about the numbers that are written on the side of the tire.

*The class of the tire - is it for a SUV a sudan, a truck,

*The weight- how much a tire can support,

*Tire speed rating- how much heat/per speed a tire can control

Wow! There was a bunch to learn! I was just looking at the tread of my tires and thought they were getting awfully bald! I finally found some. I made the appointment and I was getting new tires. It was sure a process.

Then it hit me…it IS important for me to know this stuff because the tires are the foundation of my car. They are the base. They keep me grounded and safe. If it is rainy or icy I am counting on the tread to help secure me and keep my car going in the right direction. If it is crazy hot (like it gets here in Texas) and the road is blazing, I need my tires to be able to withstand the heat when I am driving fast on a highway. Not only is it important for me, but how about the other people in my car? I need to be knowledgeable and safe for them too!

Think about it. Here is the big question… What keeps you grounded and safe in your life? What are your tires? What is your foundation? Have you built a solid base and done the research that when the ground is icy or it is stormy in your life you can handle it?

Keli's Korner Challenge - Are you living the life lessons that were taught to you by your parents/mentors when you were a child? How do others see these lessons lived out in your life now? Do you still complain about when your coach benched you for not working hard enough in practice, or did you learn from that and use that as something from which you’ve grown? What about your faith? Is your faith a foundation that you will unashamedly put in the forefront of your life? How can you do “research on your tires” to make sure you have the most solid foundation in life that you can have?
