Simply, Do Better!

Our son was a baseball player. He played from the time he was four in t-ball through college ball. It was a great ride!  His story is a good one,  as he wasn’t ever the big guy hitting the big home runs and had to really work to prove himself.  Each step along the way there were doubters and people that questioned his abilities until he proved that he was exactly where he was supposed to be.

I started seeing a trend in his competitive spirit early on. When he didn’t get the playing time he wanted he told us he would have to just do better - wait his turn or beat the guy out in front of him. I loved that! He had a plan. I saw his drive… his fight! DO BETTER became his mantra! When he was in college he would tell us stories of guys coming in from high school expecting to play immediately - some did - but most didn’t.  They would ask Kyle what they could do?  He would simply say, “Wait your turn or DO BETTER!” that was it - there was nothing hard about it… JUST DO BETTER!

I started thinking about that as I watched the National Championship football game.  Both teams had amazing seasons and now got to compete against each other.  However, one team dominated- I MEAN DOMINATED! During the game I kept thinking - dang, just DO BETTER!

Isn’t that how everything in life is? We want so much and then complain when we don’t have/get what we want.  Simply, do better.

You want to lose weight… DO BETTER with your diet and exercise.

You want a new job… DO BETTER preparing yourself, looking for and following up on applications.

You want better grades… DO BETTER studying.

You want your relationships to thrive… DO BETTER at working on what makes that relationship great!

And the list goes on and on!

Our society has gotten to the point where WE don’t make the effort ourselves and we point fingers at others for our faults.  Wake up people! It is not always someone else’s fault. Sometimes we just need to take a hard look at ourselves and decide if we are serious about making a change or getting a different result in our lives. If we are serious about it - WE are in charge of doing something about it! Let’s all slow down, breathe and just DO BETTER! I know I need to work on that! Let’s SIMPLY DO BETTER together!

There are so many things I need to do better if I want to see the changes in my life happen.  What about you?  Do you blame others?  Do you always have excuses?  What are the things you need to just do better? How can you make that happen? How WILL you do better? This week make a plan to do one thing in your life better and work on it each day!
