I know a sweet young lady who is EXPERIENCING lots of life right now! You know the crazy, hectic, unbelievably busy times. She has 4 kiddos, a great hubby and a wonderful teaching job. It is nearing the end of the school year, and if you are in education you know all the insaneness that goes along with that. Well, not only is she dealing with school crazy - it is prom weekend (she is in charge) and her daughter is also going, one of her sons has a game she needs to attend and she just found out her husband is having emergency surgery. You know… it’s that crazy season of life for her. You might have experienced it or something similar. Insanity!
The one thing I love about how she has gotten through all of this is that both of her older boys, her parents, in- laws and friends all show up to help in all sorts of ways - they weren’t asked - they just appeared. She says that in all the craziness, she looks up “and then there are your people!” I LOVE THISSSSSS!
Think of YOUR people - they can be your family, your friends, people you work with, your neighbors, your church friends, your kid’s friend’s parents, etc… . They are yours! They are the ones who show up!
Your people may change with the season that you are in - mine have.
Your people may be life long people - I have those.
Your people could be related to you - OOHH, do I have those people!
But what makes these people MY PEOPLE? Well, when I reflect on my life, I remember looking up and there they are….
*When I need direction - I look up and there are my people.
*When I need to cry - I look up and there are my people.
*When I laugh uncontrollably - it’s with my people
*When I need support - I’m held up by my people.
*When I just need to sit and be quiet - there are my people.
*When I am celebrating - the loudest ones are my people.
*When I need prayer or need to pray - there are my people.
I think having a tribe of people around you is important, but in turn you have to be there for them as well. You know the old Golden Rule about treating others how you want to be treated! It goes both ways.
Finally, your group of people doesn’t have to be large. It just needs to be authentic and genuine. I pray that you find them and when you are dealing with whatever comes your way in life, you can look back and tell stories about the craziness. Additionally, when reflecting on these life events, you can say with a big smile, “and then there are MY people that helped me survive! So, bring on more insanity - I got this!”
Keli’s Korner Challenge: Reflect on the times when you looked up and your people have been there for you. When have you been there for them? Stop and realize how blessed and lucky you are to have your people and how lucky they are to have you!
