On the porch swing at dawn with warm coffee in my cup,
I give thanks to God for family and blessings that fill me up.
I’m thankful too, for hard times and the lessons that they teach,
for the dreams that I aspire and the goals I strive to reach.
On the porch swing ‘bout mid morning when the sun’s just above the trees,
I think about the stories that my parents would tell me.
The life lessons they would talk about and promising life will be ok,
and to put God first, cherish little things and find joy in every day!
On the porch swing after lunchtime in the quiet afternoon,
I sit looking through old photos and wonder how life goes by so soon?
They were so little - we were young - starting life - a family of four.
Now they are older with their own lives, jobs, families and so much more!
On the porch swing after dinner with a big cold glass of tea,
I talk to my favorite people for hours - or so, it seems to be.
We talk about what’s happening- right now and in the past-
our hopes for the future - our plans we hope will last!!
On the porch swing in the darkness with the moon up above,
sitting quietly holding hands with my one and only love.
We've had our share of hard times, but there’s countless, many more good.
We vowed to love forever and promised that we would.
This porch swing has heard laughter - it’s seen its share of tears -
it’s heard so many stories that have soaked in through the years.
To some it may be just a swing or just a place to sit,
but to me this cherished getaway has always been a gift!
