Be Six Again!

“Six year olds laugh an average of 300 times a day. Adults only laugh 15-100 times a day.

Be six again!”

My dad once asked me if I wanted to go back to school and get my administrator’s degree. “ And work with adults?” I asked him. “No thanks! Teenagers make me laugh - adults are way too serious!”  I meant that. Kiddos in high school crack me up! They can’t help it. They don’t even know they are being funny half the time. As a teacher, I laughed A BUNCH!

After teaching high school for so long, I tend to laugh at things I probably shouldn’t or feel are inappropriate.I am also that person you may not want to sit next to at a serious event.  Don’t get me wrong, I can behave and I can be very classy and grown up and appropriate, but I do like to laugh… especially if you are my close friend and we are together. I have some friends that I can just make eye contact with and that’s all it takes - we lose it! Good luck getting us refocused!

Sometimes I will be in a situation and find myself with people who are just so very serious. I choose one of the people (in my head) and make it my goal to make them smile or laugh. Now, I don’t go crazy or do something insane to take away from whatever we are doing, but I want to lighten the mood a little. Smiling and laughter is proven to be good for our mental health and souls. Babies even laugh and smile before they even talk!

Have you ever been walking down the street and just smiled at someone? Did they smile back? Probably. It ‘s contagious! I remember when I was a kid in a class and someone would laugh. I would have no clue why they were laughing, but I would crack up too. Then before long, everyone was laughing and no one knew why!!!! The teacher might ask “What is so funny?” and someone would say “I have no idea!” while they were laughing hysterically, which somehow made it even MORE hilarious!  You know it happened to you too, right? I bet you are smiling right now thinking about it!

I was in a math class once (as a student) and we got our teacher laughing and she had no idea why we were laughing. She was laughing so hard she was crying and had no reason why - that is why it became so funny! She couldn’t stop! She tried to restart the lesson several times and someone would snicker and we all busted out laughing, including her! Needless to say, we had no lesson or homework that day - I will never forget that! It was hilarious!

Stop right now and think about some things that crack you up ( it’s good for the soul!).  Some things that make me laugh are:

  1. My husband
  2. My father-in-law
  3. Girls Get Away weekend
  4. Our kids!!!
  5. Our Granddaughter!!! Oh My Goodness she is funny!
  6. Dad jokes

… and the list goes on!

Keli's Korner Challenge: First, make a list of 10 things that make you laugh out loud! Secondly, think of a time you laughed so hard you couldn’t stop - tell someone about it. Finally, go out of your way to smile at people this week and see if they react - how they react. Spread a little sunshine in your world as we start the new year! Be six again!
