How Does Your Garden Grow?

“Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.”

-Myles Kington

My husband loves growing tomatoes! He has had years of lots of tomatoes and a year of 1 - yes, only 1 tomato! He is very persistent and determined to grow them to the highest quality this year! He hand waters his plants about 5 times each day and let me tell you - THEY ARE HUGE AND THRIVING! The pups love it and go out with him each time to “help dad.”  If I can’t find him in the house, I look out back and he’s out there tending to HIS plants. I love this! His granddad would have been proud!

We’ve had the discussion about the years the plants have thrived vs. the year of the lone tomato. There are many parts to the equation. Mostly, it is time and effort. This year, and a couple of years ago when his harvest was bountiful, he has dedicated himself to nurturing them and watching over them. Not only has he made sure they were watered enough in this dog- gone Texas heat, but he watches for things that might damage the plants - like cutworms. A cutworm can eat a bunch of the plant in just one day! We have done research as to what types of plants to put beside the tomato plants that keep the cutworms away. It’s a whole process and it’s working! We will have tons of tomatoes this year!  Watch out “Old Town Farmer's Market!”

Think about it! The more dedication, effort, passion, research and time you put into something….the better it does - just like growing tomatoes! Doesn’t that make sense?!?! If you want your knowledge to grow in any area - spend time learning about it. It’s not just going to show up in your brain. The ideas, the jobs, the relationships are not just going to drop out of the sky. The results will equal the effort we put into something. Just hoping the sprinkler system waters the plants enough doesn’t always work. What are the cutworms that are preventing growth in your life garden? Remember YOU have to “hand water” your plants and give some effort to have the best results.

What are “the tomatoes” in your life that you want to thrive and grow?  How are you tending to your plants? Your outcomes will show your time and effort that you put into them. What will your garden look like? Spend some time thinking about how to cultivate the best garden of your life and get to planting!
